Ego is not a devil. In fact to some extent ego helps us keep our self-esteem intact. Though unchecked ego can be disastrous.
Unchecked ego is your enemy no. 1. It definitely is a devil, for it can be dangerous, as it not only victimizes people who allow it to thrive in their being, but also victimizes those who interact with such people.
Simply put, unchecked ego is a menacing weakness. And one must do whatever one can to overcome it.
It is said that you can conquer your enemies through your knowledge about them. But what when the enemy is within?
Since unchecked ego is a BIG weakness, it is not difficult to realize where that weakness resides.
Your weakness is inside you, and not inside anybody else. If you wish to overcome your weakness then you need to look inside yourself and not inside others. Those who keep looking into others ultimately end up becoming victims of their own menacing Ego. They don’t realize that unchecked Ego is energetic, stylish, sporty, smart. Ego knows how to always emerge a winner in its favourite pastime of blame game, a sport that Ego loves to play, for Ego fears losing its identity.
Ego says – I cannot be wrong, I don’t have any weakness, I am always better than others, I know it all, I will not acknowledge defeat even if I am wrong, I will not listen to you even if you are right, I am the best and nobody can stand in comparison to me, etc. etc.
In effect, Ego makes people go blind to their own weaknesses.
Ego when left unchecked, stimulates the mind to play the game of looking down upon others instead of looking down inside oneself. In doing so Ego not only manages to preserve itself but also creates a lineage by giving birth to Aggression.
Ego loves Aggression.
Aggression makes Ego go blind with rage, making it more destructive than ever.
To cut a long story short, do you even realize that when you let your Ego go unchecked you are indulging in self-destruction??
